Therefore thus says the LORD: Ask you now among the nations, who has heard such things; the virgin of Yisra'el has done a very horrible thing.


Cut off your hair, [Yerushalayim], and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.


For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passes through; neither can men hear the voice of the livestock; both the birds of the sky and the animals are fled, they are gone.


Thus says the LORD of Armies, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skillful women, that they may come:


Yet hear the word of the LORD, you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.


Shall I not visit them for these things? says the LORD; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?


Moreover, take up a lamentation for the princes of Yisra'el,


Fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it has devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a scepter to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.


They shall take up a lamentation over you, and tell you, How are you destroyed, who were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city, who was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be on all who lived there!


You, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tzor;


Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tzor, and tell him, Thus says the Lord GOD: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.


This is the lamentation with which they shall lament; the daughters of the nations shall lament therewith; over Egypt, and over all her multitude, shall they lament therewith, says the Lord GOD.


Son of man, take up a lamentation over Par`oh king of Egypt, and tell him, You were likened to a young lion of the nations: yet are you as a monster in the seas; and you did break forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.


Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, children of Yisra'el, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:


Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Shomron, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their lords, *Bring, and let us drink.*


Therefore thus says the LORD, the God Tzeva'ot, the Lord: *Wailing will be in all the broad ways; and they will say in all the streets, 'Alas! Alas!' and they will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.


Those who swear by the sin of Shomron, and say, 'As your god, Dan, lives;' and, 'As the way of Be'er-Sheva lives;' they will fall, and never rise up again.*


In that day they will take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, saying, 'We are utterly ruined! My people's possession is divided up. Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!'*
