The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Izevel had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.


it happened even so to him; for the people trod on him in the gate, and he died.


Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Navot, and the blood of his sons, says the LORD; and I will requite you in this plat, says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat [of ground], according to the word of the LORD.


He lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? There looked out to him two or three eunuchs.


When he was come in, he ate and drink; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king's daughter.


For in this mountain the hand of the LORD will rest. Mo'av will be trodden down in his place, even like straw is trodden down in the water of the dunghill.


The foot shall tread it down; Even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.*


The Lord has set at nothing all my mighty men in the midst of me; He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men: The Lord has trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Yehudah.


Then my enemy will see it, and shame will cover her who said to me, where is the LORD your God? Then my enemy will see me and will cover her shame. Now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.


They shall be as mighty men, treading down muddy streets in the battle; and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them; and the riders on horses will be confounded.


You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make,* says the LORD of Armies.


*You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.


How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
