Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Yerushalayim: see your gods, Yisra'el, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.


He will give Yisra'el up because of the sins of Yarov`am, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Yisra'el to sin.


Yehudah did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.


It happened that, as soon as he was king, he struck all the house of Yarov`am: he didn't leave to Yarov`am any who breathed, until he had destroyed him; according to the saying of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Achiyah the Shiloni;


for the sins of Yarov`am which he sinned, and with which he made Yisra'el to sin, because of his provocation with which he provoked the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, to anger.


He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Yarov`am, and in his sin with which he made Yisra'el to sin.


`Omri 1 did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and dealt wickedly above all who were before him.


Ach'av the son of `Omri 1 did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.


It happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Yarov`am the son of Nevat, that he took as wife Izevel the daughter of Etba`al king of the Tzidonim, and went and served Ba`al, and worshiped him.


Ach'av made the Asherah; and Ach'av did yet more to provoke the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, to anger than all the kings of Yisra'el who were before him.


For he built again the high places which Chizkiyahu his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Ba`al, and made an Asherah, as did Ach'av king of Yisra'el, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.


Notwithstanding, the LORD didn't turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Yehudah, because of all the provocation with which Menasheh had provoked him.


Nevertheless he cleaved to the sins of Yarov`am the son of Nevat, with which he made Yisra'el to sin; he didn't depart from it.


and he appointed him Kohanim for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.


He also made his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom; and he practiced sorcery, and used enchantments, and practiced sorcery, and dealt with those who had familiar spirits, and with wizards: he worked much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.


They took fortified cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance: so they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness.


Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their back, and killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.


Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds. The plague broke in on them.


seeing you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?


How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!


Yet they tempted and rebelled against the El `Elyon, and didn't keep his testimonies;


For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.


You shall make no cast idols for yourselves.


who show loving kindness to thousands, and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, the LORD of Armies is his name;


The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.


yet they didn't listen to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers.


Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have forgotten me, and cast me behind your back, therefore bear you also your lewdness and your prostitution.


Then he said to me, Have you seen [this], son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Yehudah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger: and behold, they put the branch to their nose.


He put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and the sky, and brought me in the visions of God to Yerushalayim, to the door of the gate of the inner [court] that looks toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy.


*'Don't turn to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.


Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?


They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities. I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.


You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.


They chose new gods. Then war was in the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Yisra'el?
