They also organized the priests and the Levites for the Temple services in Jerusalem, according to the instructions contained in the book of Moses.


In addition there were 220 Temple workers whose ancestors had been designated by King David and his officials to assist the Levites. They were all listed by name.


Do you consider it a small matter that the God of Israel has set you apart from the rest of the community, so that you can approach him, perform your service in the Lord's Tent, and minister to the community and serve them?

They shall take charge of all the equipment of the Tent and perform the duties for the rest of the Israelites.


Separate the Levites in this way from the rest of the Israelites, so that they will belong to me.


I have claimed them in the place of all the first-born sons of the Israelites, and they belong to me alone.


I am now taking the Levites instead of all the first-born of the Israelites,


and I assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons, as a gift from the Israelites, to work in the Tent for the people of Israel and to protect the Israelites from the disaster that would strike them if they came too near the Holy Place.”


It was he who “gave gifts to people”; he appointed some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, others to be pastors and teachers.


As the scripture says, “When he went up to the very heights, he took many captives with him; he gave gifts to people.”
