3 “Our father died in the wilderness without leaving any sons. He was not among the followers of Korah, who rebelled against the Lord; he died because of his own sin.

The life of every person belongs to me, the life of the parent as well as that of the child. The person who sins is the one who will die.


I swear that I will do this to you wicked people who have gathered together against me. Here in the wilderness every one of you will die. I, the Lord, have spoken.’”


Then Korah gathered the whole community, and they stood facing Moses and Aaron at the entrance of the Tent. Suddenly the dazzling light of the Lord's presence appeared to the whole community,


The number of people who died was 14,700, not counting those who died in Korah's rebellion.


Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, but only daughters; their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.


They went and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole community at the entrance of the Tent of the Lord's presence and said,


Just because he had no sons, why should our father's name disappear from Israel? Give us property among our father's relatives.”


Again Jesus said to them, “I will go away; you will look for me, but you will die in your sins. You cannot go where I am going.”


That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. And you will die in your sins if you do not believe that ‘I Am Who I Am’.”


Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.


So then, just as sin ruled by means of death, so also God's grace rules by means of righteousness, leading us to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.


For sin pays its wage—death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.
