If it is a contest of strength, behold, he is mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon him?


Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,


In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.


So the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day—


“Behold, I am against you, O proud one, declares the Lord God of hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.


Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.


“Thus says the Lord of hosts: The broad wall of Babylon shall be leveled to the ground, and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples labor for nothing, and the nations weary themselves only for fire.”


“Flee from the midst of Babylon; let every one save his life! Be not cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance, the repayment he is rendering her.


The Lord utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the Lord is great and very awesome; who can endure it?


Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?


saying, “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign.


And the ten horns that you saw, they and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire,


And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth.”


For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.” And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off


And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, “Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been laid waste.


Once more they cried out, “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”
