But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.


Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons,


He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.


a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants.


He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!


who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free;


For the Lord hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.


for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you.


The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.


For it is written, “Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.”


He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.


Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn.
