For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter, for there was none left, bond or free, and there was none to help Israel.


Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?


You have seen, O Lord; be not silent! O Lord, be not far from me!


Do not forsake me, O Lord! O my God, be not far from me!


Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies!


O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!


Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.


For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper.


I looked, but there was no one to help; I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold; so my own arm brought me salvation, and my wrath upheld me.


But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.


And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.”


Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed.


Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.


For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone and there is none remaining, bond or free.


In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
