Hear, O our God, for we are despised. Turn back their taunt on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land where they are captives.


Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.


For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.


When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.


The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.


A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.


The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.


Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease.


When the wicked increase, transgression increases, but the righteous will look upon their downfall.


If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.


With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you;
