25 And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.


Then Ezra arose and made the leading priests and Levites and all Israel take an oath that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.


Whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of his goods or for imprisonment.”


So I confronted the officials and said, “Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I gathered them together and set them in their stations.


Then I confronted the nobles of Judah and said to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?


And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people.


I also shook out the fold of my garment and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not keep this promise. So may he be shaken out and emptied.” And all the assembly said “Amen” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.


I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these words.


Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law.


in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;


and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive against them.


I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.


It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.


You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons,


For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you,
