Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and struck him down and put him to death. And he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.


Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.


As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”


For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.


Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.


and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;repent and believe in the gospel.”


As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,


And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,


When John’s messengers had gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?


beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.”


And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.


And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people.
