“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”


Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.


When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.


one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.


For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.


And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.


and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.


Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.


Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.


And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”


So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”


“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.


And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.


Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,


Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.


Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?


Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.


None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.


Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.


In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.


who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,


in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—


As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.


For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
