“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


Many years you bore with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.


Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!


Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,


How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.


Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.


Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!


He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.


For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.


Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them and they have not listened, I have called to them and they have not answered.”


Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’


“For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my spirit; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.”


This was for the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.


The more they were called, the more they went away; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols.


My people are bent on turning away from me, and though they call out to the Most High, he shall not raise them up at all.


“Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before.


Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.


and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.


while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.


But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,


and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”


But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.


Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,


And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”


And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.


If they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern their latter end!


Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever!


and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.


The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!”
