So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites. Although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to strike them down in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.


But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.


in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;


And he took one of the royal offspring and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath (the chief men of the land he had taken away),


“As I live, declares the Lord God, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die.


By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.


And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent.


So the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab and her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. And they brought all her relatives and put them outside the camp of Israel.


And Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.


And he showed them the way into the city. And they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.
