For what do they care for their houses after them, when the number of their months is cut off?


They are exalted a little while, and then are gone; they are brought low and gathered up like all others; they are cut off like the heads of grain.


Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!


She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night.


For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.


For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.


And about the time of her death the women attending her said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you have borne a son.” But she did not answer or pay attention.
