Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind.”


“I have heard many such things; miserable comforters are you all.


Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?


My brothers are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as torrential streams that pass away,


They are ashamed because they were confident; they come there and are disappointed.


For you have now become nothing; you see my calamity and are afraid.


The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;


“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.


Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.


There is none to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you.


Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt! In vain you have used many medicines; there is no healing for you.


They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.


Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?


The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them.


When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.


And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”


and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.
