21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”


And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.


It may be that the Lord will look on the wrong done to me, and that the Lord will repay me with good for his cursing today.”


So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the Lord that he might fulfill his word, which the Lord spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.


Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”


Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, “Stand up and bless the Lord your God from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.


But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.”


But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.


Behold, he snatches away; who can turn him back? Who will say to him, ‘What are you doing?’


I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.


My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.


I am mute; I do not open my mouth, for it is you who have done it.


For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.


and those riches were lost in a bad venture. And he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.


As he came from his mother’s womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.


Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.


Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord; in the coastlands of the sea, give glory to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


Who gave up Jacob to the looter, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey?


I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the Lord, who does all these things.


Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?


Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?


Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’


to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place.


giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,


give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.


for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.


Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.


Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.


I went away full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?”


The Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts.


He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them he has set the world.


So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to him.”
