And she said to Elijah, “What have you against me, O man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to cause the death of my son!”


Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.


Be not so terribly angry, O Lord, and remember not iniquity forever. Behold, please look, we are all your people.


For your gods have become as many as your cities, O Judah, and as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to shame, altars to make offerings to Baal.


Thus says the Lord concerning this people: “They have loved to wander thus; they have not restrained their feet; therefore the Lord does not accept them; now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.”


because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah that they did to provoke me to anger—their kings and their officials, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster.


Then Jeremiah said to all the people, men and women, all the people who had given him this answer:


Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their wives, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?


you built yourself a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square.


But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.


The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.


“The Lord saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.


“‘Is not this laid up in store with me, sealed up in my treasuries?


The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath.


for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.


Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
