He saw that a resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant, so he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant at forced labor.


And Gedaliah swore to them and their men, saying, “Do not be afraid because of the Chaldean officials. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.”


You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.


Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.


But any nation that will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land, to work it and dwell there, declares the Lord.”’”


How lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become, she who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave.


We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness.
