Then he led out his people like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.


Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They shall not enter my rest.”


“When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.”


Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.”


And the people of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.


During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God.


And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”


and they said to them, “The Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”


“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord, “I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.


And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.


I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them.


So they set out from the mount of the Lord three days’ journey. And the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.


Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned, according to your word.


Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.


The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,


who went before you in the way to seek you out a place to pitch your tents, in fire by night and in the cloud by day, to show you by what way you should go.


for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance that the Lord your God is giving you.


For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He knows your going through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.”’

“Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’
