These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.


The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish.


Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left.


They have made it a desolation; desolate, it mourns to me. The whole land is made desolate, but no man lays it to heart.


“Judah mourns, and her gates languish; her people lament on the ground, and the cry of Jerusalem goes up.


For the land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land mourns, and the pastures of the wilderness are dried up. Their course is evil, and their might is not right.


I looked, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the air had fled.


“For this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above be dark; for I have spoken; I have purposed; I have not relented, nor will I turn back.”


The prophets will become wind; the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them!’”


the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.”


“I will take up weeping and wailing for the mountains, and a lamentation for the pastures of the wilderness, because they are laid waste so that no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard; both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled and are gone.


Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?


Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it languish, and also the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, and even the fish of the sea are taken away.


How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep suffer.


And he said: “The Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.”


Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,


Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘O Lord of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?’


For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.
