And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.


In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem


“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, which if a person does them, he shall live by them, and they turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.


for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke rashly with his lips.


for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High.


Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.


Yet they sinned still more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.


Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath; a fire was kindled against Jacob; his anger rose against Israel,


How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert!


He let loose on them his burning anger, wrath, indignation, and distress, a company of destroying angels.


Yet they tested and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies,


and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.


And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”


And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.”


Pay careful attention to him and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him.

“The Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word; but hear, all you peoples, and see my suffering; my young women and my young men have gone into captivity.


“Look, O Lord, for I am in distress; my stomach churns; my heart is wrung within me, because I have been very rebellious. In the street the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death.


Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged me with all these things, therefore, behold, I have returned your deeds upon your head, declares the Lord God. Have you not committed lewdness in addition to all your abominations?


And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day.


And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

They did not walk in my statutes but rejected my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them.

“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.


And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.


“Yet you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the Lord your God.


Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.


And they came to the people of Reuben, the people of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they said to them,
