They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.


from men by your hand, O Lord, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.


You conceive chaff; you give birth to stubble; your breath is a fire that will consume you.


They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.


No one enters suit justly; no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies, they conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.


The pangs of childbirth come for him, but he is an unwise son, for at the right time he does not present himself at the opening of the womb.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.


We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.


But Saul said, “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation in Israel.”


Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As the Lord lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, so that he did not die.
