In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.


I look at the faithless with disgust, because they do not keep your commands.


“Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”


Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.


You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger.


Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power, preserve those doomed to die!


Good sense wins favor, but the way of the treacherous is their ruin.


In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might.


Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.


Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name. He will surely plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon.
