14 But now the Lord has spoken, saying, “In three years, like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be very few and feeble.”

This is the word that the Lord spoke concerning Moab in the past.


And in that day the glory of Jacob will be brought low, and the fat of his flesh will grow lean.


For thus the Lord said to me, “Within a year, according to the years of a hired worker, all the glory of Kedar will come to an end.


The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to defile the pompous pride of all glory, to dishonor all the honored of the earth.


For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.


And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim, but the Lord will lay low his pompous pride together with the skill of his hands.


For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted.


Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people, because he magnified himself against the Lord.


Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,


but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be.
