And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the Lord. Therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which killed some of them.


For a cry has gone around the land of Moab; her wailing reaches to Eglaim; her wailing reaches to Beer-elim.


I will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the Lord: the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, and the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.


“Israel is a hunted sheep driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has gnawed his bones.


And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again sevenfold for your sins,


then I also will walk contrary to you, and I myself will strike you sevenfold for your sins.


then I will walk contrary to you in fury, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.


as if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall, and a serpent bit him.


So we overthrew them; Heshbon, as far as Dibon, perished; and we laid waste as far as Nophah; fire spread as far as Medeba.”
