Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, that he may come and attack me, the mothers with the children.


And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of two calves; and they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal.


Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria. And Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute.


Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?


The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel, declares the Lord of hosts.


The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?”


And I will dash them one against another, fathers and sons together, declares the Lord. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.’”

and I will cut off the cities of your land and throw down all your strongholds;


Yet she became an exile; she went into captivity; her infants were dashed in pieces at the head of every street; for her honored men lots were cast, and all her great men were bound in chains.


All your fortresses are like fig trees with first-ripe figs— if shaken they fall into the mouth of the eater.


At kings they scoff, and at rulers they laugh. They laugh at every fortress, for they pile up earth and take it.
