‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.


And the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the people of Israel: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have talked with you from heaven.


Also it was I who brought you up out of the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.


And your children shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years and shall suffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness.


And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.


But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.


This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years.


For your eyes have seen all the great work of the Lord that he did.


And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: “You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land,


Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor.


“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children—


And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.


Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years.


And you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you.


And when they cried to the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians and made the sea come upon them and cover them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt. And you lived in the wilderness a long time.


For the people of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord; the Lord swore to them that he would not let them see the land that the Lord had sworn to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
