That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine that are to occur in the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine.”


And Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the valleys. Perhaps we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, and not lose some of the animals.”


Who is the man so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?


Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of hunger, who wasted away, pierced by lack of the fruits of the field.


Now there came a famine throughout all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, and our fathers could find no food.
