And when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the stomach, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.


Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains who were set over the army, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to death with the sword anyone who follows her.” For the priest said, “Let her not be put to death in the house of the Lord.”


Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.


“Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.


If one is burdened with the blood of another, he will be a fugitive until death; let no one help him.


“But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.


So I spoke to you, and you would not listen; but you rebelled against the command of the Lord and presumptuously went up into the hill country.


when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
