He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.


“Indeed, the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire does not shine.


that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the godless but for a moment?


that the evil man is spared in the day of calamity, that he is rescued in the day of wrath?


The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.


Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.


Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!


Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah


But you, O God, will cast them down into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.


I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him.


For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.


For who knows what is good for man while he lives the few days of his vain life, which he passes like a shadow? For who can tell man what will be after him under the sun?


In my vain life I have seen everything. There is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his evildoing.


It is good that you should take hold of this, and from that withhold not your hand, for the one who fears God shall come out from both of them.


No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.


Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.


therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant;


There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”


No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.


They have not humbled themselves even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your fathers.


Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.


and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.


yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.


And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
