8 The Lord God has sworn by himself, declares the Lord, the God of hosts: “I abhor the pride of Jacob and hate his strongholds, and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.”

Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage;


He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah


“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.


When God heard, he was full of wrath, and he utterly rejected Israel.


The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.


Ah, the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine!


My heritage has become to me like a lion in the forest; she has lifted up her voice against me; therefore I hate her.

Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the Lord, that my name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’


For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that Bozrah shall become a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.”


The Lord of hosts has sworn by himself: Surely I will fill you with men, as many as locusts, and they shall raise the shout of victory over you.


The Lord has become like an enemy; he has swallowed up Israel; he has swallowed up all its palaces; he has laid in ruins its strongholds, and he has multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.


‘Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the yearning of your soul, and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.


The sword shall rage against their cities, consume the bars of their gates, and devour them because of their own counsels.


I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.


And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.


“They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord, “those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.”


Therefore thus says the Lord God: “An adversary shall surround the land and bring down your defenses from you, and your strongholds shall be plundered.”


The Lord God has sworn by his holiness that, behold, the days are coming upon you, when they shall take you away with hooks, even the last of you with fishhooks.


“I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.


The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day,” declares the Lord God. “So many dead bodies!” “They are thrown everywhere!” “Silence!”


The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.


In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.


“The Lord saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
