Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come!


He who flees at the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit, and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.


who say: “Let him be quick, let him speed his work that we may see it; let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near, and let it come, that we may know it!”


They will growl over it on that day, like the growling of the sea. And if one looks to the land, behold, darkness and distress; and the light is darkened by its clouds.


Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways, as if they were a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the judgment of their God; they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.


And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into thick darkness.


Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another.


Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the twilight mountains, and while you look for light he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness.


Behold, they say to me, “Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come!”


Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it.


“Son of man, what is this proverb that you have about the land of Israel, saying, ‘The days grow long, and every vision comes to nothing’?


“Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, ‘The vision that he sees is for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’


Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.


The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.


The Lord utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the Lord is great and very awesome; who can endure it?


The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.


For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head.


“For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.


they shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured by plague and poisonous pestilence; I will send the teeth of beasts against them, with the venom of things that crawl in the dust.


But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.


They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”
