Then the officials said to the king, “Let this man be put to death, for he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking the welfare of this people, but their harm.”


“But you made the Nazirites drink wine, and commanded the prophets, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy.’


Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”


And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.”


But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.


And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.


Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to.


saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.”


Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.


For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.


When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
