The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.


For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.


But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah


For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.


Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.


at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.


And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.


“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”


And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.


and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.


Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”


“Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”


Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.”


therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.


You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’


he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.


But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,


for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,


in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.


“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”


But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.


and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.


And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.


“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.
