Thus shall you say to them: “The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”


For it is from Israel; a craftsman made it; it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.


“Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.


Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man.


And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.


And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.


This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.


These he gathered together, with the workmen in similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that from this business we have our wealth.


You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led.


Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.”


Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.


And there you will serve gods of wood and stone, the work of human hands, that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.


For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,


The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk,
