And of Jezebel the Lord also said, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the walls of Jezreel.’


Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;


And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.


And you, O desolate one, what do you mean that you dress in scarlet, that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, that you enlarge your eyes with paint? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.


They even sent for men to come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and behold, they came. For them you bathed yourself, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments.


Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead. Bind on your turban, and put your shoes on your feet; do not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.”


Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—


Now the Philistines had gathered all their forces at Aphek. And the Israelites were encamped by the spring that is in Jezreel.
