Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.”


“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.


As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.


The hands of compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food during the destruction of the daughter of my people.


“But if in spite of this you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me,


You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.


“They shall besiege you in all your towns, until your high and fortified walls, in which you trusted, come down throughout all your land. And they shall besiege you in all your towns throughout all your land, which the Lord your God has given you.


And you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and daughters, whom the Lord your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you.
