but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.


And the Lord said by his servants the prophets,


Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the people of Israel.


But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.


“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.


I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.


If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.


and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.”


Not only did you walk in their ways and do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.


You shall say, Thus says the Lord God: A city that sheds blood in her midst, so that her time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself!


And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, and have not even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you,


We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.


Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after filth.


O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!


If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.


So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.


But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.


But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But there shall be a king over us,
