Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.


And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”


and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.


as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.


So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,


that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,


Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,


my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me.


But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
