8 Do not now be stiff-necked as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to the Lord and come to his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever, and serve the Lord your God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you.

Still the Lord did not turn from the burning of his great wrath, by which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.


All the leaders and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.


Now hear me, and send back the captives from your relatives whom you have taken, for the fierce wrath of the Lord is upon you.”


and said to them, “You shall not bring the captives in here, for you propose to bring upon us guilt against the Lord in addition to our present sins and guilt. For our guilt is already great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”


Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, in order that his fierce anger may turn away from us.


He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord, the God of Israel.


‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, and I chose no man as prince over my people Israel;


but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’


For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.


Let our officials stand for the whole assembly. Let all in our cities who have taken foreign wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders and judges of every city, until the fierce wrath of our God over this matter is turned away from us.”


They pledged themselves to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was a ram of the flock for their guilt.


So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.


Your procession is seen, O God, the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary—


Nobles shall come from Egypt; Cush shall hasten to stretch out her hands to God.


until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.


He let loose on them his burning anger, wrath, indignation, and distress, a company of destroying angels.


And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.


Raise a shout against her all around; she has surrendered; her bulwarks have fallen; her walls are thrown down. For this is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done.


Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”


If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.


But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”


But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.


Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.


It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.


You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.


And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”


“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.
