2 Chronicles 25:16 - English Standard Version 2016

16 But as he was speaking, the king said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the Lord might fulfill his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.


Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in the stocks in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time.


And the king of Israel said, “Seize Micaiah and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son,

But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.


Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord,


would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof,


declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’


Your evil will chastise you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, declares the Lord God of hosts.
