Behold, we are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves.


Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power.


O Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone we bring to remembrance.


Correct me, O Lord, but in justice; not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.


Though they hire allies among the nations, I will soon gather them up. And the king and princes shall soon writhe because of the tribute.


Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan.


It was only in order that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who had not known it before.
