And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.


The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,


Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.


There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you; you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.


Even if they bring up children, I will bereave them till none is left. Woe to them when I depart from them!


“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.


for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.

One of the young men answered, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, and the Lord is with him.”


Samuel did what the Lord commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, “Do you come peaceably?”


And when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him.


Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.


Saul was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David’s enemy continually.


But should it please my father to do you harm, the Lord do so to Jonathan and more also if I do not disclose it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. May the Lord be with you, as he has been with my father.


And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?”


Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am in great distress, for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams. Therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do.”


And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
