the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.


For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.


But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.


for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.


among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.


to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,


Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,


Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.


so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.


for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.


Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.


and having a reputation for good works: if she has brought up children, has shown hospitality, has washed the feet of the saints, has cared for the afflicted, and has devoted herself to every good work.


Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.


Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”


Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.


For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.


having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.


whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.


Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,
