But he said, “Far be it from me that I should do so! Only the man in whose hand the cup was found shall be my servant. But as for you, go up in peace to your father.”


They said to him, “Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!


and said, “Far be it from me before my God that I should do this. Shall I drink the lifeblood of these men? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.


Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.


The prince shall not take any of the inheritance of the people, thrusting them out of their property. He shall give his sons their inheritance out of his own property, so that none of my people shall be scattered from his property.”


“The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with me.


The inheritance of the people of Israel shall not be transferred from one tribe to another, for every one of the people of Israel shall hold on to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.


So no inheritance shall be transferred from one tribe to another, for each of the tribes of the people of Israel shall hold on to its own inheritance.’”


Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.


By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged.”


By no means! For then how could God judge the world?


What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!


By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?


Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.


What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”


Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!


But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.


Far be it from us that we should rebel against the Lord and turn away this day from following the Lord by building an altar for burnt offering, grain offering, or sacrifice, other than the altar of the Lord our God that stands before his tabernacle!”


Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods,


Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way.


He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.”
