15 He said, “You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel fully expected me to reign. However, the kingdom has turned about and become my brother’s, for it was his from the Lord.

Then David comforted his wife, Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the Lord loved him


And a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.”


Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.


And Hushai said to Absalom, “No, for whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I will be, and with him I will remain.

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule and brought him to Gihon.


There Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”


Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.


Then he said, “I have something to say to you.” She said, “Speak.”


And now I have one request to make of you; do not refuse me.” She said to him, “Speak.”


King Solomon answered his mother, “And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my older brother, and on his side are Abiathar the priest and Joab the son of Zeruiah.”


No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord.


he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
