And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the donkey.


“Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.


So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan.


“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”


When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him, whether it be a nation or a man?—


Who provides for the raven its prey, when its young ones cry to God for help, and wander about for lack of food?


He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.


Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish,


“Take the staff, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water. So you shall bring water out of the rock for them and give drink to the congregation and their cattle.”


Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.


But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
