And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done.


He is wise in heart and mighty in strength —who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?—


For they provoked him to anger with their high places; they moved him to jealousy with their idols.


You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,


(for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),


Whatever has come to be has already been named, and it is known what man is, and that he is not able to dispute with one stronger than he.


“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?


Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth?


Is it I whom they provoke? declares the Lord. Is it not themselves, to their own shame?


Can your courage endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.


Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealousy, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full and sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger.
