But now I have chosen Jerusalem as a place for my name. And I have chosen David to lead my people Israel.’


Then Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Haman’s wife and the men that gave him advice said, “If Mordecai is a Jew, then you can’t win. You have already started to fall. Surely you will be ruined!”


God said,\par “Don’t hurt my chosen people.\par Don’t do anything bad to my prophets. {\cf2\super [549]} ”\par


The Lord chose Zion {\cf2\super [622]} to be the place\par for his temple.\par That is the place he wanted for his home.\par


\{The Lord said,\}\par “This will be my place forever and ever.\par I choose this to be the place\par where I will be.\par


The Lord chose Jacob. {\cf2\super [626]} \par Israel belongs to God.\par


People who have the Lord as their God\par are very fortunate.\par Why? Because God chose them\par to be his own special people.\par


Get up, God!\par You be the judge!\par God, you be the leader\par over all the nations!\par


\{In the future,\} the Lord will again show his love to Jacob. The Lord will again choose the people of Israel. \{At that time,\} the Lord will give those people their land. Then non-Jewish people {\cf2\super [146]} will join themselves to the Jewish people. Both people will join and become one family—Jacob’s family.


That night, the people will be frightened.\par Before morning, nothing will be left.\par So our enemies will get nothing.\par They will come to our land,\par but nothing will be there.\par


You were in a far away country,\par but I reached out to you.\par I called you from that faraway place.\par I said, ‘You are my servant.’\par I chose you.\par And I have not rejected you.\par


But Jacob’s God {\cf2\super [83]} is not like those idols.\par God made everything.\par And Israel is the family that God chose to be his own people.\par God’s name is “Lord All-Powerful.”\par


Those nations destroyed you,\par but now they have been destroyed.\par Israel and Judah,\par your enemies will become captives. {\cf2\super [240]} \par Those people stole things from you.\par But other people will steal from them.\par Those people took things from you in war.\par But other people will take things\par from them in war.\par


But Jacob’s Portion (God) is not like those worthless statues.\par People didn’t make God,\par God made his people.\par God made everything.\par His name is the Lord All-Powerful.\par


The angel also said,\par “The Lord All-Powerful says,\par ‘My towns will be rich again.\par I will comfort Zion.\par I will again choose Jerusalem\par to be my special city.’”\par


Then \{the angel of\} the Lord said, “The Lord rebukes you and he will continue to criticize you! The Lord has chosen Jerusalem to be his special city. He saved that city—it was like a burning stick pulled from the fire.”


“The Lord found Jacob (Israel) in a desert land, an empty, windy land. The Lord surrounded Jacob to watch over him. He protected him, like the pupil of his eye.


The Lord’s share is his people; Jacob (Israel) belongs to the Lord.
